IN MEMORY OF - Roger Broggie

In memory of Roger Broggie

Roger Broggie was President of the High Lakes Car Club for 2 years, after serving as Vice President for several years. He had just been re-elected in November 2012 for a third term. Many of you know him from our annual Show-N-Shine car show in June. As Chairman, he was the "backbone" of the show, devoting many hours and a lot of energy to organizing the show: working on the trophies, organizing work parties, and coordinating all parts of the show. If you attended, you would have seen him not only presenting the trophies to the winners, but also busy all during the show, making sure things went as smoothly as possible.

Roger owned, and entered in many of the car shows, a black 1956 Thunderbird that was originally purchased new by his father. He also owned a 1929 Model A, which he planned to restore. One of his great loves was restoring old cars. He and Marilyn recently purchased a very nice 1955 Chevy station wagon for her, but we noticed this "strictly Ford man" driving that Chevy around town and to a few car shows.

He was working on a "project" as usual, on December 4th, when he suddenly and quietly fell over, hitting his head on the shop floor. He was working with other members of the car club, decorating their entry float for the La Pine Christmas Light Parade. It was looking great and they were getting near the end of the job when he fell. He passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, after remaining in a coma for one week following brain surgery.

Roger worked as a Machinist/Mechanical Designer for Disney Studios in California for most of his career, and for Universal Studios & others. One of his hobbies after retiring to La Pine was designing and building 1/8 scale working model steam engine trains... machining all of the intricate parts himself. A very unique talent. He was currently working on two of these for people who had ordered them from him because of his reputation for quality.

He loved NASCAR racing....always had to get home after Church & breakfast on Sundays to watch whatever race was on TV. He also loved.to fish, and joined his "fishing buddies" in California every year for a week of camping & fishing.

Roger was one of those men who was really liked by everybody. Sort of the "Sara Lee" of guys: "Nobody doesn't like Roger". In addition to his involvement in the Car Club, he was active in the Grange and other parts of the community...always busy. He and Marilyn regularly attended the La Pine Calvary Chapel.

His family is in the process of setting up a Scholarship Fund in his name, for a student who is pursuing a Mechanical Engineering career.

Roger will be truly missed by everyone who knew him!

MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - A Scholarship Fund has been set up in Roger's name, for a student who is pursuing a career in the field of Mechanical Design or Machinist. Thank you all who have already donated! Donations may be made to:
